Custom software

Custom software is an application built for one specific company, around its processes, its data and its business rules. Unlike a generic product, it does not impose its own way of working: it reproduces yours, then improves it. For an SMB leader, the question is not whether it can be done, but whether it is worth it and how to run the project well.

Here you will find our articles on the cost of custom development in Quebec, requirements definition, wireframing, choosing a developer or an agency, deployment and the modernization of aging systems. Each guide draws on the projects we have run with manufacturing, distribution and service companies since 2016.

The range is wide: from $25,000 for a focused tool to over $1M for a full platform. Most of the SMB projects we deliver land between $50,000 and $250,000. The price depends on how many processes are covered, the integrations with your existing systems and the expected level of polish.

When your processes are a competitive advantage, when no product on the market covers more than 70% of your needs without workarounds, or when licences and patches (Excel files, double entry) already cost more than building. If a standard tool does 90% of the job, it usually remains the better choice.

By defining requirements before writing code, validating screens with wireframes, shipping in short increments that your teams actually use, and choosing a vendor that leaves you owner of the code and the data. Our articles on requirements, wireframing and outsourcing cover each of these levers.
